9/18/11-Sun.-Am back from a long weekend visit with my mom as well as with my brother, Allen, his wife Nina, and their kids, Sharon and Seymour. Both Allen and Sharon were having birthdays celebrated. Charlotte, my mom, did the occasion up grandly, taking us out to dinner a couple times, including to a special party-pizza place, as well as funding gifts for both the grandkids at Toys-R-Us. I was also there, since Friday afternoon, to help Mom pick a cell phone and a practical plan to go with it. She needs better ways of getting hold of folks in case of emergency, having in the past several weeks had severe knee problems and falls associated with them. During this period, her grandchild, Joel, who had roomed with her while going to school in IT security, has moved out for a job in Round Rock, leaving her on her own, a woman who will be 89 next month, for the first time in around three years.
